1 day agoJune 20 Reuters - The government of Canada on Monday published final regulations to prohibit harmful single-use plastics with a ban on manufacturing and importing most of these items to come.
. The new rules announced Monday will apply to checkout bags utensils food-service products with plastic that is difficult to recycle ring carriers. The regulations ban the manufacturing and sale of plastic checkout bags cutlery straws six-pack plastic rings stir sticks and plastic takeout containers. In a statement on Monday June 20 the Liberal government announced that it has published the final regulations to prohibit single-use plastics.
We promised to ban harmful single-use plastics and were keeping that promise. Exceptions to the ban on straws allow single-use plastic flexible straws to remain available for people in Canada who require them for medical or accessibility reasons. It is estimated that the regulations would prevent more than 23000 tonnes of plastic pollution from entering the environment over a ten-year periodthe equivalent of one million garbage bags of litterand their enactment represents both a necessary and a major step in the regulatory process that brings Canada one step closer to delivering on its commitment to.
